Re: Heighley

Thank you, yes, I will certainly be very careful with this one, it's just the coincidence that the name turned up in two totally separate places, so I was just trying to see if there is a connection.

Re: Lack of Matches

Out of eight great-grandparents I've only been able to find DNA links to about five. The others could be the result of false paternity, or simply the lack of matches/records on the products I'm registered with. As mentioned already, Ancestry's hints rely on other user's trees and these can be unreli...

Heighley

Hi - wonder if you can help me, I'm looking for a connection! Some of my research on my motherline suggests I am related to a famiy in County Durham called Heighley (could be pronounced/spelt Heighkley and probably in other ways). They were either from Staindrop or Whorlton (so, west of Auckland) an...

Re: The DNA journey begins

Have you considered uploading your data to GEDmatch?
Most of it is free, you can get many more matches and do all sorts of analysis on your DNA, even back to ancient times. It's very interesting.

Re: Any clues?

Thanks, all for your comments, yes, the background does look a bit 'contrived'.

Interesting comment about the boy at the front resembling his father - now you come to mention it... yes, the other boys' resemblance to their mother I can definitely get.

Re: Any clues?

Thanks Nan, 1930s is helpful. The uncle I was thinking of was born late 1920s, so could well have been him. Do you think the dress style is particularly well-to-do? Most likely to have been taken in England, Scotland, possibly Ireland, there is a faint possibility of Russia as well (but doesn't look...

Any clues?

I have one mystery photo in my family history collection.
Can anyone give me any clues e.g. date of photo, any idea as to location?
The boy at the front looks a bit different to the others, there's a faint possibility he may be one of my uncles.
Thanks for any ideas!

Church Farm, Billingham, Stockton, Durham

A friend of mine can find some references to her 19th century ancestors in newspaper articles and census entries as 'Church Farm, Billingham'.

Does anyone happen to know whereabouts it is in relation to Billingham or know anything else about it?

Thanks!

Re: Advice please - which Ann Shaw?

Update: In addition to Ann b 1806, I have found two more possible illegitimate births to a Hannah Shaw (it said Ann was the third): Thomas 1810 Staindrop - died after three days John 1800/01 Gainford: 'Natural Son. Mother daug of Thomas & Betty SHAW native of Even Wood' The latter would suggest ...
