We welcome any query on Who When Where. If you have previously posted it on another forum (including the old WDYTYA forum), please state this in your opening post - this will save people redoing the research which has been done before: they can look at it and possibly go further with it.

Re: Brickwall Thoughts

I too would appreciate some thoughts. My most long standing brick wall is in Norfolk. He also seems to have beamed in from another planet and dies in 1823. He does marry in his place of residence (Colkirk) but the witnesses are of no help. I have no idea what his occupation was. His age at death dif...

Family Treemaker

I use this software to record my tree. The last time I used it I did not close it down. When I returned to it today I thought my computer had done an update (it may well have done - I did not check but will). When this happens it usually says it closed unexpectedly do I want to go back to it (or wor...

Re: Ancestry transcriptions

I went back to see if I could post a correction as I had the feeling I couldn't but despite using the same search criteria I cannot replicate the results and am only finding baptisms in random places other than Gloucestershire so Miriam will have to remain William. I used to love Find my Past but th...

Ancestry transcriptions

I do sometimes wonder how anyone finds anybody on Ancestry. I thought I would have another go at my Mills ancestors in Gloucester - a totally fruitless task. I was trying for a William Mills born around 1700. The first one I looked at may or may not have been Mills - without tracking through the reg...

Re: Fulham burial records

Many thanks for all suggestions. In the end I decided to go there and check it out. There is an office there with a helpful lady in it. I would not have known the exact spot if there had not been a headstone!!! The plot was behind the office so very close to where I had ended up. It is a very large ...

Fulham burial records

Does anyone know where to find where someone is buried in the Fulham Cemetery, Sheene. I don't know if I am being exceptionally dim but I can't see where you might find a particular plot. The event took place in 1937 and as it seems to be an exceptionally big place I would like to know where to look...

Re: Wills on GOV.UK

I think more recent ones do come straight away. I think they are amazing value - I think they used to be more expensive which is why I haven't got them before. I have recently been sending for all the wills for my family. They don't come straight away but I ordered one this morning and it came this ...

Re: Catholic baptism

Thank you for posting what it says on other baptisms - it just goes to show how very hard it can be to decipher what has been written. I don't think I would have ever read that first letter as an 'i' but your last interpretation makes a lot more sense even if it doesn't solve your initial problem.
