We welcome any query on Who When Where. If you have previously posted it on another forum (including the old WDYTYA forum), please state this in your opening post - this will save people redoing the research which has been done before: they can look at it and possibly go further with it.

Re: How long to serve in the army to be eligible for a pension?

Many thanks Adrian Bruce. Knowing he was an Ag Lab in 1891 (aged 16) and already a pensioner in 1904 he obviously hadn't served 21 years. So if he joined up in 1893 (aged 18) and came out, say 1903, he would have done 10 years. At least the information you've found and provided suggests he may have ...

How long to serve in the army to be eligible for a pension?

This is a bit of an odd question. My grandfather was illegitimate and I have just managed to find out who his father was through DNA matches. My grandfather was born 8 February 1899 Devon. Working backwards he would have been conceived in May 1898. His father (born 1875 Devon) is an Ag lab in Devon ...

Re: Will Query

Thanks for your thanks. I do think you will probably find that the "sentence" written in latin isn't a will. It may perhaps contain references to people and bequests in the will. It is likely to be a confirmation by the PCC that the will, proved subsequently, was a valid one. As you have ...

Re: Will Query

Thank you for your suggestions. I will have a look at the other examples. I have just found out that a friend of mine did a Degree in Latin, I will see if she can decipher anything from the Latin version as I suspect that this one may be an earlier Will which could be being superseded by the English...

Will Query

I hope someone can help me. Phillip Dyer died in 1730 Ilfracombe. His Will can be found on Ancestry under Phillipi Dyers with a Probate date of 13 November 1730 Ilfordcombe. It is written in Latin, although I have no Latin, but my rudimentary French gets me by with some of it. I can pick out names i...

Re: Frances Murch (possibly Hucker)

Hi Jonwarrn Thank you so much for finding Frances in the 1851 census. I had tried all combinations that I could think of including just using her first name and Devon as a place of birth, but of course didn't find her! Thank you also for finding 7 Berwick Street in the 1861 census. She is obviously ...

Frances Murch (possibly Hucker)

I'm trying to trace Frances Murch born 1793 Roborough by Torrington in Devon. I have found a possible marriage for her to John Hucker on 12 July 1824 in Southampton. The couple had George Henry baptised 1825 St George Hanover Square and Eliza baptised 1829 St Pancras. I think I have found the couple...

George Firman Burton cause of death

I am hoping someone might be able to read the attached part image of George's death certificate. I can read Meningitis and convulsions. It's the bit in between. I think it says Meningitis of ???/Convulsions certified. He died 27 December 1849 and was buried 3 January 1850. His sister Eliza was born ...
