We welcome any query on Who When Where. If you have previously posted it on another forum (including the old WDYTYA forum), please state this in your opening post - this will save people redoing the research which has been done before: they can look at it and possibly go further with it.

Re: IOM Marriage for London-based Couple

Was he in the army or a clergyman? I have a 1st cousin 3 x removed who was a sergeant in the Royal Sussex regiment and serving in the Isle of Man in the 1891 census, and someone linked by a second marriage of a relative who was a vicar in the Isle of Man in 1861. Both were married on the mainland, t...

Re: How to continued..........

And of course it depends on whether the mason has actually done what you paid for...! My mother paid for her great aunt to be added to the plot where said great-aunt's parents and sister (my birth grandmother, who died when my mother was 3) were buried when she died in the 1980's. I have the receipt...

Re: New laptop problem

I had this problem almost exactly a year ago, I couldn't acess the hard drive whilst in the original computer. I purchased a kit which allows you to access hard disks (both SATA and IDE format) via a USB port. Mine came through Amazon and is a "BIPRA USB 2 to SATA/IDE adapter with power adapter". I ...

Re: Old Palace School Bombing 80th Anniversary

Very interesting Paul: I noted that one of the Beckenham firemen who died lived in Mounthurst Road, Hayes - which is the road I grew up in until I was 10. I am glad to see they were all commemorated.

Find my Past subscriptions

I've had an email this morning telling me that the "British" subscription (which was withdrawn for new subscribers a few years ago) is now being withdrawn for everybody. I have been able to continue with this susbcription providing that I renew without interruption, and jhave done so because it incl...

Re: Findmypast new interface

You beat me to it - I found it on one screen on Tuesday, but was waiting to check different types of record. I find it useful if I am going through browsing PRs rather than searching, as I can jump forward a number of years at a time. At other times it ios a distraction but not a huge one (it does h...

Re: Findmypast new interface

Paul - I have the same subs as you but the (what shall we call it?) "sandwich" icon doesn't appear on all collections. I've seen it on census pages, and (IIRC) on the later, pre-printed, formatted pages for baptisms. They seem to be formats where the data is in a pretty predictable position. Pre-Ro...

Re: Findmypast new interface

I do not have the option mentioned by Adrian - I have Image 2.png The warning triangle just alloows reporting of an image error. I also am unable to remove the line of images from the bottom of the screen in full screen mode, when right-clicking there is no option there. I guess it may be different ...

Re: Family tree errors

There are quite a few trees on Ancestry (no doubt having information copied from one to another) that have my great great grandfather married to a random woman who lived in Ousden (near Newmarket): he was born in and baptised at Wangford (near Southwold) - the other side of the county! It caught me ...

Findmypast new interface

I discovered this afternoon that FMP have updated their interface overnight - at least when browsing parish record sets - which is a considerable improvement as there are now controls to change brightness/contrast, the ability to invert the image (Ancestry already has these) and a few other things a...
