We welcome any query on Who When Where. If you have previously posted it on another forum (including the old WDYTYA forum), please state this in your opening post - this will save people redoing the research which has been done before: they can look at it and possibly go further with it.

Burials Law Amendment Act

I have a parish record of a burial in 1924 which states:

Certified under Burial Law Amendment Act by T Taylor, Undertaker.

I've never come across this before. Can someone explain exactly what this means and why it would be used?

Thanks in advance.

Joseph Viggars 1841 census

Joseph Viggars was born about 1776 and his wife Martha about 1781. Both were born in Staffordshire. The 1841 census shows them living in Halmer End, Audley, Newcastle under Lyme, Staffordshire, England. Now comes my question. Under 'Occupation' it seems to say 'Ind' which to me suggests Independent ...

Re: WDYTYA - 29 June - Chris and Xand van Tulleken - no spoilers

It was interesting to see that only days after this episode aired that the Dutch King, Willem-Alexander confirmed that the monarchy had benefited from the slave trade for over 200 years. He then made a public apology for the Netherlands' historic involvement in slavery and the effects that it still ...

WDYTYA - 29 June - Chris and Xand van Tulleken - no spoilers

Medical doctors, science broadcasters and identical twins Chris and Xand van Tulleken team up to research their family tree. WDYTYA - 22 June - Kevin Clifton (no spoliers)

All Strictly fans know exactly where Kevin Clifton - aka `Kevin from Grimsby" - comes from. It was mentioned on the show often enough.

He’s keen to know if his roots spread further than Grimsby and rumors told by his father have any truth in them.

Re: WDYTYA 2023 Series

Reference - Julian playing the pieces composed by their ancestor. Julian stopped playing in public some years ago, due to a neck problem. I suspect that he felt that having been so wonderful when he did play publicly that he'd be unable to do the pieces justice. A bit like a sportsman coming out of ...

WDYTYA - 8 June - Claire Foy

Claire Foy has played Queen Elizabeth II, Anne Boleyn and the Duchess of Argyll. However, there’s no hint of royalty in her family tree. Foy’s main concern is that she’ll find a criminal lurking in her ancestry, but while there’s tragedy with a fatal drowning and a motorbike accident, it’s not until...

Re: Public Health Information

Have you tried the Victoria County History for Bucks? There's also a large number of Parish histories and history groups for Bucks. Have you had a look at any of them? Which village/villages are we talking about? I have ancestors in some of the Bucks villages so I can see if I have anything about de...
