Re: can not get anywhere researching one family ancestor
I have tried everything I know and also the suggestions, but can find nothing for the Thelma Holmes we are looking for, As jonwarrn mentioned earlier - it might be a good idea to get the 1981 death certificate for Thelma Harkell: June qtr 1981 Camden 14 1880 Harkell, Thelma d-o-b 26 July 1913 Death...

Re: can not get anywhere researching one family ancestor
...that she had a Yorkshire accent For what it's worth -- John H V Holme's paternal grandparent's weren't Welsh. Thomas Holmes birthplace was Cumberland, and wife Emma (nee Loosmore) was from Durham. If Thelma is related to John H V Holmes in some way (perhaps thru adoption) could she have been bor...

Re: can not get anywhere researching one family ancestor
I have had access to the 1911 and 1921 censuses but no luck finding John Henry Vincent Holmes and no Thelma in the 1921 census 1921 census - John Henry Holmes (born 1916) is with his parents Philip and Sarah (and siblings) at 8, Park Terrace, Pen-Lan, Neath Higher, Glamorganshire. Father is a Tin W...

Re: Ann Brenning, my 5th great grandmother
The Macey children had non-conformist baptisms. Perhaps Ann was from a non-conformist family, in which baptisms for them aren't available online?

Re: Attestation (surname alias)
Not so sure it was a matter of "deceit" as it was simply enlisting under another name. Unless the soldier had previously served and was discharged, then attested using a different name in another regiment. As regards my fellow's three attestation records, his birth name is (later) recorded...

Attestation (surname alias)
Just wondering if other Forum members have this family tree situation during the 19th and early 20th century: Recently I was looking for possible military records for one of my great-uncles (born 1883). Finding one soldier's records for three different regiments, from the Boer War to WW1, I had a cl...

Re: Murray, again
If there were pre-1813 births they might not be online. What sources have you checked so far? Ancestry and FS? Doesn't Ancestry's London parish collection only go up to 1812? :? Have you found any baptism records for the Murray children born c1813 to 1833? If not, that could explain why you're not f...

Re: Murray, again
The 1829 Removal Islington to Shoreditch document does list 6 children, but there may have been earlier births prior to Mary (age 16). Any older children were probably young adults by 1829 and no longer living with the family. So look for suitable birth/baptisms from c1805 to 1812 in Ealing, Shoredi...
