We welcome any query on Who When Where. If you have previously posted it on another forum (including the old WDYTYA forum), please state this in your opening post - this will save people redoing the research which has been done before: they can look at it and possibly go further with it.

Re: Ann Brenning, my 5th great grandmother

Hi everyone, many thanks for your replies. I haven't looked at Ann for quite some time due to the colossal brick wall and I can't quite remember how I reached the conclusion that her death was in 1791 (Plymouth), however, this is definitely not her death date because this was a daughter of a William...

Ann Brenning, my 5th great grandmother

Hi everyone, I have a massive ongoing mystery with my 5th great grandmother, Ann Brenning. She married Henry Macey in 1781, Plymouth and in the record his surname is spelt as 'Mascey'. I have his side covered, but this is the earliest document I can find regarding Ann - her surname is actually spelt...

Re: Agnes Findlay - a huge mystery!

Sorry for the very late reply - life and technical issues!

I did look up the Hetherington name and I noticed that it was very much a name from around the borderlands, it's just incredibly frustrating that nothing appears to be matching.

Hopefully something might appear along the way!

Re: Agnes Findlay - a huge mystery!

It's actually only one of the census records, either 1861 or 1871, it's also in the same record where Andrew's place of birth is listed as being Cumberland. There was also an incorrect name used in Andrew's death certificate, his mother was named as Mary Graham and I have never been able to find any...

Re: Agnes Findlay - a huge mystery!

The parent's names are on the death certificate of Agnes, but they appear to be on other family trees without any dates for marriage and birth (which is what has bothered me, without the necessary evidence, I can't make any decisions on who they could be, etc). All the baptisms for the Beattie child...

Agnes Findlay - a huge mystery!

Hi everyone, I posted about this quite a few years ago on the old WDYTYA forum, I don't recall there being any conclusion, however. This is a very long running brick wall regarding my 4th great grandmother, Agnes Findlay, I am descended via her youngest child, Mary Ann Beattie, who was born in Cumno...

Re: Arthur Stopford Jarvis MC (1885-1967) - Middle Name Query

I have only just recently solved a similar conundrum in my family tree. My 3rd great grandfather had a sister who was named Ann Brissenden Smith, and someone with this name was a witness to the marriage of my 4th great grandparents. I have just discovered in the past two weeks that this woman was a ...

Re: Mystery uniform/insignia

Hi everyone, Many thanks for your replies and apologies for my late one! I have looked at the freemason records, but unfortunately nothing seems to come up. I have tried to search for the initials PCN and CLL, however I only get modern results in reference to parking charges! I definitely do think t...

Mystery uniform/insignia

Hi everyone, I have been pondering over this photo of one of my great, great grandfathers for several years, my research hasn't been very forthcoming unfortunately. I know that he was a coachman, allegedly for the royals, but later in his life he was a coachman for H M Repuke funeral services. The i...

Re: Nagrill or Lagrill of Camden

Hi, it also seems to me that it says Sagrill.
Have you tried searching through any newspaper archives for the business?
I have tried to search for it on Google, but unfortunately nothing is showing up.
