We welcome any query on Who When Where. If you have previously posted it on another forum (including the old WDYTYA forum), please state this in your opening post - this will save people redoing the research which has been done before: they can look at it and possibly go further with it.

Re: TNA online events

TNA have not restarted on-site events which they usually charged for, but TNA is financed by the UK taxpayer and how much would they actually make for on-line events, is it worth the candle to try.

TNA online events

I have just received an e-mail from TNA in which they are asking people to pay a donation (the figure suggested by TNA is from nothing to £15!) for the event. Surely after the last two years we have had and TNA not allowing full access to Kew then this is inappropriate. Before Coronavirus I would be...

Re: MOR Records Project

I used to work in the Freedom of Information Centre at TNA some 10 years ago and I can say that the rules on FOI come from the FOI Act and information from the Information Commissioner's Office along with legal decisions. However recently TNA have been closing documents as it might upset relatives (...

Re: MOR Records Project

... If there are redactions, would they include his (second) wife and childrens' names, etc? We have absolutely no idea. I can say, however, that if he died before September 1996, then anyone can get the full story now . To totally remove that access will surely cause complaints. If they follow the...

Re: MOR Records Project

Regarding Anthony M's question anyone should be able to access his grandfather's file once it is open assuming he was born no later than 1905... Actually it was my question. ;) At any rate, my grandfather was born in 1897. I was just curious, as his military service papers number about 30 pages. If...

Re: MOR Records Project

I wonder how long it will take TNA to work out how they are going to work these transfers out, it is disappointing that the RAF appear to be the first set of records, I suggest that it is a much smaller set than the Army. I do have doubts that they are 500,000 files from the First World War. I take ...

MOR Records Project

Whilst it is good that the records being sent to TNA (over a six-year period) as it was originally suggested that they be digitised and the originals destroyed!, however the application of a 115-year-closure from the date of birth meaning only people born before 1907 will be released. In my view the...

Re: Burial Management System

I wonder how they would deal with for example St Mary's at Harrow and the Wolborough Church at Newton Abbot both of whom are very steep churchyards. Of course there is no guarantee that they can match burial registers with burial plots and some people were interred within the churches. Of course gra...

TNA

This notice from TNA saying that researchers could be charged up to £7 to park their car (staff are exempt!) has just, rather strangely, disappeared from their website. In my view ( as a non-driver) it is a disgrace and just a money-grabbing exercise, in 2018 TNA said they could not afford to run a ...

Re: Welsh baptism

The church holds copies, see below, with the National Library of Wales holding the originals. There may be a problem given Coronavirus. The church may refuse to search unless you have a specific date in mind, which seems fair enough to me.
