We welcome any query on Who When Where. If you have previously posted it on another forum (including the old WDYTYA forum), please state this in your opening post - this will save people redoing the research which has been done before: they can look at it and possibly go further with it.

Re: Anomaly in FMP indexing
I wonder if it's something to do with the Warrington baptisms being part of the "Cheshire Diocese Of Chester Parish Baptisms 1538-1911" collection? The original PRs for Warrington (a bit of hand-waving over what that covers) are at Chester RO - and I'm not sure why. Unless they were access...

Re: Number of Christenings on same day
As I recollect from Sunday School, many years ago, a Baptism service is pretty much set up to do multiple baptisms in one service. The intro and outro are addressed to the whole congregation, but then there is (in programming terms) a loop for each child which starts with the priest saying to the (g...

Rates of pay in the British Army in the Napoleonic era
Just in case you have a relative in the British Army during the French Revolutionary & Napoleonic Wars, there's a raft of useful bits of financial information such as rates of pay, prices of commissions, etc, on https://www.napoleon-series.org/researc ... c_pay.html

Re: Digitisation of Home Guard records
Did you supply a DC? From https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/about/our-role/plans-policies-performance-and-projects/our-projects/ministry-of-defence-service-records/ Can I open a record of an individual I know to be deceased? Whether or not the material can be opened will be assessed upon request a...

Digitisation of Home Guard records
See https://www.whodoyouthinkyouaremagazine.com/news/the-national-archives-contract-digitise-home-guard-records . That is an interesting article (thanks WDYTYA mag) because it contains the clearest statement I've yet seen about how the commercial relationship works - e.g. no, TNA are not paying thei...

Re: Britten Green marriage
Curiously the Bishop's Transcript appears to hyphenate her first two names, leaving "Bird" as the surname, i.e. "Elizabeth-Britten Bird" - this happens twice, so isn't just a fly-speck on the paper. The Parish Register omits the hyphen, so it's as if, when copying out the BT, the...

Re: Family Treemaker
Looking at my email later I found an email received at just after 7am from TreeVault offering me a reduced subscription for their backup/restore service. I am deeply suspicious of this. Would it be possible for them to sabotage my tree? If you didn't open the mail until after you lost the FTM data,...
