We welcome any query on Who When Where. If you have previously posted it on another forum (including the old WDYTYA forum), please state this in your opening post - this will save people redoing the research which has been done before: they can look at it and possibly go further with it.

Re: Missing

So if spouse is declared dead and partner remarries what happens if the missing reappears?

In less formalised times ...if the missing spouse was “assumed” dead and partner remarries what happens then if the missing reappears.

Re: What do they have in their hands? What Occasion?

The picture was taken at the entrance to the cottage where my mother, daughter one of the the girls in the photo (front left), eventually grew up a good few years later! The photographer would have been standing on the road - there was only 2ft between road and door. The girls are standing on what w...

What do they have in their hands? What Occasion?

This photo is from around 1892 (from the ages of the girls).

They are obviously dressed up and are all holding something in their hands - flowers? with ribbons. They are the youngest 3 of 15 children with their mother.

Any suggestions as to what occasion this might have been

Clandestine Marriage and Baptism Registers

I don't think this the person I was looking for, but I found this and wondered what it is? It says London, England, Clandestine Marriage and Baptism Registers, 1667-1754 and appears to be from Fleet Notebooks (Ashwell), 1741 Dec - 1742 Feb I can't quite read this, but I think it says Quarrelsome Peo...

Re: What is his Occupation?

the Piece/Folio/page doesn't help me find the image. I’m pretty sure the same goes for Ancestry if you look deep enough (try advanced search) That's a new one on me - any chance of a quick note on how to do that (as a tutorial)? I don't use Findmypast at the moment. I am happy to have a quick look ...

Re: What is his Occupation?

The marks between what is Drover and C at the end are very distinctive. A comparison with the rest of the page might indicate what this form of pen strokes resembles. I would look for you, but you have not given us a lot to go on - DOB and place of birth might be a good start - the Piece/Folio/page ...

Re: Huguenot Research

Challis could well be a corruption, or Anglicisation of a Huguenot name. It doesn't appear in any list of Huguenot namesI consulted online. In my wife's family tree, there are several Anglicised surnames, including Sack or Sedt from Le Sedt and Sneller from Snellaert. Many people think it is of Nor...
