We welcome any query on Who When Where. If you have previously posted it on another forum (including the old WDYTYA forum), please state this in your opening post - this will save people redoing the research which has been done before: they can look at it and possibly go further with it.

Re: Useless FMP Transcriptions
Wiltshire Baptisms Index 1530-1917 transcriptions were created by both Findmypast and Wiltshire Family History Society. The "blank" records in question could be the result of problems occurring during the transcriptions conversion process as they were uploaded to So its technical issue ra...

Re: Samuel Allcock 1753
Methinks you doth protest too much. I have had no problems with quality with screenshots compared with downloads.
I was merely pointing out that where downloads have been disabled, a screenshot is a viable alternative option, especially if one enlarges the image to full screen.

I was searching for a baptism for Robert Lyddal in wiltshire around 1650, and FMP listed about 10 results with no names listed.
On checking one, FMP presented me with the following:
To quote Adrian, as useful as a chocolate teapot!! Why do they bother?

Re: Samuel Allcock 1753

I don’t know what you are looking at, but my Item 23 has 1415 images! The 79 images you are looking at are overseer records, not parish register!

Re: Samuel Allcock 1753
You might try looking on FamilySearch. They have un-indexed images for HT available to browse. (Login, search\catalogue for HT, select on-line only, then select Church records.) The PR Transcripts for 1556-1860 are available to view. I had a quick look, and found lots of church warden accounts, and ...

Widworthy marriage entries
We all complain when Baptisn entries just refer to father’s name, with no mention of mother’s name. The vicar of Widworthy, Devon in 1600’s took it a step further when it came to entering marriages, he show a typical marriage as ‘John Snell and his wife Christian were married on ….’! Talk about maki...

Re: POW records
You’ll find the same thing happens with FamilySearch films. If they ‘sell’ the rights to a film to the likes of FMP or Ancestry, then they block browsing access to registered users trying to access them What complicates / confuses is that Ancestry / whoever often then pays FS for the right to use i...
