We welcome any query on Who When Where. If you have previously posted it on another forum (including the old WDYTYA forum), please state this in your opening post - this will save people redoing the research which has been done before: they can look at it and possibly go further with it.

Re: Match differences

If I recall correctly, I recently read that it's easy to get the wrong idea about the DNA differences between 2 human beans - you end up thinking that there is virtually nothing in common between you and your tenth cousin - but since so many bits of DNA do basically the same thing across all plants ...

Re: Match differences

Without plunging into reference material that I barely understood the first time round, I think that the answer that the matching process is a lot more complicated than just counting "the votes from the Norwegian Jury".... (Old TV phrase if it means nothing to you...) Each site has differe...

Re: Arthur Stopford Jarvis MC - WW1

... Ancestry has his WW1 medal card, but a service number is not indicated. ... That will be because officers had no service number in WW1. His personal files are at TNA under WO 374/37165 - this is only available at Kew. Officers personal files from WW1 can be very interesting. They are not the of...

Re: Copy of Will

I tried that myself and immediately thought that I also had no results for the chap in 1864. However, given that most of us will be looking for probate issued before 31 December 1995, I contend that page is badly designed. What happened with me was that since it isn't a probate issued before 1995, w...

Re: Infant deaths

... Ancestry’s definition is anyone under legal age??? That is a proper legal usage. However, it's a bit unusual, in my view , to see it being used for someone that old by anyone outside m'learned friends of the legal profession. Then there's Infants' School - I don't know what today's terminology ...

Re: FIND MY PAST SEARCHING - Warning

... searching for Marriage of Drusilla Eliza Holt in 1913, I carelessly left off final a of her first name, and entered Drusill , yet despite ticking use name variants for forename, it failed to find her! ... One would think that Drusill was close enough to Drusilla to meet their name variant crite...

I'd agree with that - basically, there wasn't any room left on his line on the R/H page, so it (the red addition) had to go adjacently.
