We welcome any query on Who When Where. If you have previously posted it on another forum (including the old WDYTYA forum), please state this in your opening post - this will save people redoing the research which has been done before: they can look at it and possibly go further with it.

Re: Family Historian-Find my past hints

Hi Paul

I rarely use the hints as I find them annoying but I did dip in a week or so ago and it worked as long as I was signed in to FMP as well.

From FamilySearch Passenger Information form when he transits in New York he gives his future UK address as C/O J Forsythe Esq. 356 Brigstock Road, Thornton Heath, Surrey, England https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-9942-4B73?i=184&cc=1923888&personaUrl=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1...

Re: Canadian deaths 1960s

Good news Eileen.

I also have a protestant/catholic cross over in the 1840s that are proving difficult to track down but I live in hope!

Re: Brickwalls, Name Variants - Opinions and Experience Please

If the site you use allows wildcards then I would search Dav* rather than individually putting in possible variations. It should save time and the wild card search should pick up any possible variation. If the search doesn't produce anything then put in Daw*.

Re: Canadian deaths 1960s

Morning Canada adheres strictly to the 100 year rule for records which is why you are drawing a blank. Newspaper records may be your best avenue of research as BMD's were often reported. Try www.newwspapers.com this is a fee paying site but if you have a full Ancestry membership you should be able t...

Re: FIND MY PAST SEARCHING - Warning

Mick The difference between Bann dates and actual marriage dates is something that constantly crops up in transcripts of indexes as opposed to images of the original. As is constantly mentioned the only thing you can 99% trust is to look at an original document, but even those can contain errors as ...

Re: Sam Trimble Merchant Navy

Ok if he jumped ship that may explain why we are not finding anything as I suspect he may not have been officially given a discharge number. A quick email to Southampton Archives may be helpful. They keep the original register of the 4th Merchant seaman (1918-1941)and they may be prepared to do a qu...

Re: FIND MY PAST SEARCHING - Warning

Like Paul I use the same method on FMP and Ancestry believing the sites are so large now that better results are achieved by looking at a definitive set where possible. I can't remember which site I was using, or which method I was using, but a while ago I found myself unable to locate records I had...

Re: Sam Trimble Merchant Navy

Samuel Trimble should appear in the 4th or 5th Register of Merchant seamen if a member at the time of the start of WW2, and would have a discharge number. I have checked FMP (4th) and TNA (5th) and nothing came up which is unusual. I have also checked passenger lists on FMP and Ancestry, again nothi...
