Personally, I don't think he was a cab driver, horsekeeper was added to the entry so I think someone else was the informant, rather than the chap himself. More likely to be a stable hand but cab driver sounds 'better'. But nevertheless, he does need following up.

Of course a lot more digging about is needed but why, out of interest, are you dubious about James in 1851? There's so little to go on so I'm not convinced myself but why do you think it isn't him?
