We welcome any query on Who When Where. If you have previously posted it on another forum (including the old WDYTYA forum), please state this in your opening post - this will save people redoing the research which has been done before: they can look at it and possibly go further with it.

Re: WDYTYA 2023 Series
... No, I meant Matooskie is suddenly declared his ancestor, with no lead up. They may have known a lot about her, but their audience didn’t :D It didn’t help that kevin kept referring to his ancestor as his great-great-great-great-great-grand… etc rather than using numbers like my 5’ggmother. ... ...

Re: WDYTYA 2023 Series
I think that Matooskie was referred to as being already well-known to historians of First Nations, simply because of the number of letters and documents that survive referring to her. And the number of Google references to her, bear this out.

Re: WDYTYA 2023 Series
Dipping into and out of iPlayer and listening to commentory or reading certificates... Too many Graces... His 3rd GPs John Russell (cab driver) marr Jan 1882 Grace Gorridge (16y old so b abt 1866) (this Grace is the battered wife). The marr cert says Grace's parents are Alexander(?not sure?) & G...

Re: WDYTYA 2023 Series
That's what I thought but... Just been Googling as bit more... I think a generation was rushed over, at best. Maybe edited badly. From https://www.whodoyouthinkyouaremagazine.com/episode/kevin-clifton-who-do-you-think-you-are/ A check of census records reveals that Kevin’s 2x great grandmother, Emma...

Re: WDYTYA 2023 Series
I really enjoyed the Kevin Clifton episode. It went into an area (Canadian First Nations) that I don't remember seeing before, so made a pleasant change. Incidentally, I think I may have lost a generation or two in my memory of the episode - was it Matooskie's daughter who was the (apparently) batte...

Re: Three brothers in the same regiment?
... is it unusual to have three brothers in the same regiment? ... I suspect it's pot-luck. Regiments tended to recruit in consistent areas but my impression is that might not be the case in periods of war where they'd pick up recruits from wherever they were stationed. Plus you might have brothers...

Re: First and Second World War service records
I had wondered if that sort of thing might happen but I don't remember anyone confirming it, so thanks for that.

Re: WDYTYA 2023 Series
I would really like those two to have their DNA done to see what happens when their results are compared! (And I imagine they could discuss any differences. Or lack therefore?)

Re: William Ambrose FORSYTHE, RE, 1893, Limerick
Not sure how I can reconcile the 1901 (Dublin) and 1902 (Limerick) appearances with his Army papers. The Military History Sheet says that all his 12y service was at "Home" - which means the UK ( not just Ireland). The Statement of Services shows that he joined on 6 Feb 1893. According to t...
