Being a comon name as you say, makes it less likely. However the only way to know for sure is to trace the yeoman family. Situations like that were common.

Have you looked at the original images of the Davis baptisms? Could there be a small "n" after Davis? I have seen names abbreviated in some church records before.

Would the BT's be on familysearch? They may have digitised them, and be available to search on their site. I have been lucky enough to view some Devon parishes this way.

That's very interesting, Guy. The article I read didn't mention the sweetmeats or the medicinal aspect. "Well respected tradesman for the upper classes" helps explain the amount of money and property he left in his will.
