A simple tip which came to mind as I was updating my Husband's Tree.

Very often children will be given Family names as middle names. Usually the Mother's maiden name. Hoever I have come across several instances today whereby the middle name relates to a surname from previous generations, OR in a couple of cases from the Lanlord that the father rents land from.

Backwards and forwards research can solve many problems but often a sideways search is just as useful.

Don’t forget godparents, grandparents or sponsors. They are often added as middle names.

I have also come across a very unusual middle name.
It turned out to be the name of the hotel his parents stayed on honemoon.
