Jane Hollisey (nee Read) born c1829, missing from 1861 census

Post by BeeJayEss »

Jane Read was baptized at Langport on 1 Mar 1829. She married James Hollisey in Bristol on 18 Sep 1851, she stayed in Bristol until her death on 26 Apr 1879.

I have her on the 1841, 1851 and 1871 census but not the 1861.

Her daughter Alice Lavinia Hollisey was born in central Bristol in Dec 1851. A son called James Hollisey was born in Feb 1855 again in central Bristol. In Jun 1858, her son Francis Hollisey was born in St Augustine’s, Bristol. James was off the scene by now. In Oct 1860 she gave birth to Henrietta Hollisey again in St Augustine’s, Bristol. Then in May 1864 she had Anna Maria Cokely Hollisey at St. Augustine’s.

Alice Lavinia Hollisey was with her grandparents in Langport in 1861. But where are Jane, Francis and Henrietta?

Any help will be gratefully received, thank you.

Was she mistranscriberd as "Holloway"? I did a search on her address in 1871 on FMP by address and a Jane Holloway age 30 is at 16 Park Square with Mary A Holloway aged 2. The birthplace, however, is given as Milverton.

That address also matches the birth address of Jane's (last?) son Albert Henry Hollisey, who was born 1 Dec 1874.

You are correct, she was at 16 Park Square in 1871 and on 1 Dec 1874 when her son Albert Henry was born, but I think this 1861 image may be a red herring. The name is Ann not Jane, Jane was born in Langport. Also she didn't have a daughter called Mary Ann, Francis would have been 2. However, she was a seamstress in 1871. I have addresses for her in 1864, 1865 and 1867 - none of which was 16 Park Square.

How you do that please, Paul? I could search the 1864 address I have for her. Thanks.

Hi,

You have to go to the "search all records" and select the census you want, then move the slider across to "address"
