I would appreciate it if forum users could do a bit of deciphering for me please.
On the 1861 census I have John Goddard, born in Monk's Kirby, but I cannot decipher the word in front of this. Likewise, his address appears to be what looks like Old Chequers Hotel.
I am somewhat confused, as I have recollections of finding him as Beer-keeper of The Malt Shovel, which is across the road from the Chequers, but cannot seem to locate this among my files.
