Irish marriage

Post by Tobina »

I am trying to find the marriage details for David Mitchell b. 1830 in Monaghan and Judith Hughes b. 1831 in Armagh. Their first child was born in 1853 and last child in 1867. All the children were baptised in Dundalk. I have searched Ancestry, Findmypast, Family Search and various Irish records sites but am now wondering if they actually did get married at all!
The baptism records for the children list the parents as David Mitchell and Judith Hughes.

Thanks, Tobina

You may have already looked in the place that I'm about to suggest because you mention various Irish records sites but here goes...

On John Grenham's web-site there is a section for Roman Catholic records - it covers where to find them. I started with https://www.johngrenham.com/places/rcmap_index.php and selected Co. Louth and then Dundalk. https://www.johngrenham.com/records/rc_ ... urchid=216 lists "All Known copies of Records". Baptisms for Dundalk on the "usual suspects" of web-sites appear to go up to 1880, but marriages are cut off at 1831 - except for the final entry, which refers to the subscription web-site RootsIreland http://louth.rootsireland.ie/.

My suggestion therefore would be that if the couple got married in Dundalk (where their children were baptised) then the marriage (transcript?) might be on RootsIreland. However, I didn't seem to get very far with convincing myself of the marriage's existence on that site using the front screen for a free search (which just gives a count of matching events).

Thanks Adrian, I've checked Roots Ireland but as you say no results for Louth.
Another brick wall!
