Elizabeth Sophia Pitcher

Post by Tobina »

I’m trying to find the whereabouts of Elizabeth Sophia Pitcher aka Sophia Elizabeth Pitcher in 1841.
She was born in 1831 in Paddington to Charles William Pitcher & Jane Turville.
Jane must have died before 1840 as William remarries in October 1840 to Jane Black.
Elizabeth appears on the1851 census as a servant in Marylebone.
Also I cannot find any records for Jane Turville.
Elizabeth went on to have a son called Charles Turville Pitcher.
Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Thanks

She's with Eli and Elizabeth Turvell in Roxwell near Chelmsford, Essex. So I suppose they are Janes parents or he is her brother....

Address Tye Hall
Parish Roxwell
Registration District Chelmsford
Image Reference HO107/0326/F?

EDIT... Eli was born Newton Valence, Hampshire. 1795, son of Eli and Elizabeth. They have a daughter Jane born there in 1798, so I think they are brother and sister. Eli is in Roxwell until he dies in 1883

I think you have a wrong or bigamous marriage to Jane Black.

If you look at Roxwell in 1891, you find a sister in law Harriett Turvill living with Elizabeth Turvill, widow. Harriett is single, she's Eli's sister.. In 1881 she is a relative, with Jane Pitcher, a Widow living with her son in law George Paice. Harriett was born in Froyle in 1810 to Eli and Elizabeth Turvill.

In 1861 Jane Pitcher is in Marylebone, Widow and a Nurse. In 1871 she's in Westminster,Widowed and a Nurse.

In 1869 Julia Jane Paice was baptised, the daughter of George and Elizabeth Sophia.

George Paice married Elizabeth Sophia Pitcher, 1858, Islington. She died between 1874 and 1881.

She says her father is deceased in 1858 and Eli and Harriett Turvill were witnesses.

Thanks for all this information. I’m going to remove Jane Black as she isn’t a direct relative anyway.
I haven’t found the censuses yet but will add them to the tree when I do.

Thanks again for your prompt reply.
I haven’t found Janne on the 1851 census as the only Charles & Jane Pitcher have Henry John living with them & according to the GRO his mother’s maiden name was Black which is why I had her on the tree. Just when I think I’ve got it sorted something else turns up!
Very interesting though.

I can't find them either. All the childrens baptisms give him as a window blind maker of 80 Edgware Road. They aren't there in 1841.

Only ones I found in 1851 were on Jersey, but he was a gardener..
