Illegitimate children

Post by Thunder »

The article on the WDYTYA Magazine website on how to trace the fathers of illegitimate children misses out one every important source of records for those lucky enough to have Scottish ancestry, namely the Kirk Session records which are online. The church (i.e. the Kirk) in Scotland interfered in the personal relationships of parishioners (even though they were sometimes as guilty of sex outside marriage) and went into detail, usually chasing the women involved, not very often the men!. The Kirk Sessions records are very information, especially those in Aberdeenshire and the north-east of Scotland.
