TNA descriptions

Post by Thunder »

I was looking at the following case from TNA's Discovery catalogue "HO 144/10/25751: 1873 July: CRIMINAL: MARCHANT, Elizabeth; COURT: Surrey Assizes; OFFENCE: Murder; SENTENCE: Death - Criminal Lunatic", criminal lunatics were never sentenced to death as they would have been declared insane and in this case as in many others she was sentenced to be detained under HM Pleasure and she ended up in Broadmoor. In fact at the assizes she was found not guilty on the grounds of insanity. This is not the only description at TNA which is completely wrong. Researchers should be able to have confidence that descriptions are true and accurate, I have asked TNA to amend the description.
