One of the pains about comparing is that it's easy to look at the RPI conversion and say, "But that's peanuts!" Well, indeed it probably was but that doesn't mean that your ancestor was down at the bottom of the pay-scales. They might very well have been comfortably off, wages wise, compared to the rest of the guys in that street.
Having said that, Dan, I'm not wholly certain that those sites answer your exact question...
We welcome any query on Who When Where. If you have previously posted it on another forum (including the old WDYTYA forum), please state this in your opening post - this will save people redoing the research which has been done before: they can look at it and possibly go further with it.
