Never forget to check military resources, I say this as my ancestors seldom joined up, I knew my father had been in the army in WWII but never thought anything else about it and no mention was made about his time in the army.
Last year I discovered a different side to my father who left us when I was young, a newly found cousin informed me not only had he been injured at Dunkirk but later he had been awarded the Military Medal.
