I have chap that may have died in a shop fire In London in 1896. Can I see inquests or official fire reports anywhere?

You might be best looking to see if there are any newspaper reports about the inquest. You usually get more details from them

I’d agree with that. Some newspapers will give details of inquests and the coroner so you’ll have extra details to work with.

If after finding out from newspapers where the case was heard then I would suggest the London Metropolitan Archives but London has quite a few archives!.
