Researchers and visitors may like to note that the names on the memorial will be covered up for two years as part of restoration work. Incidentally when I visited the memorial at Arras (northern France) it needs work done as the names were fading about twenty years ago, caused by weathering by the wind.

We welcome any query on Who When Where. If you have previously posted it on another forum (including the old WDYTYA forum), please state this in your opening post - this will save people redoing the research which has been done before: they can look at it and possibly go further with it.
Ypres (Ieper) Menin Gate
Re: Ypres (Ieper) Menin Gate
I visited Ypres and battle areas/cemeteries in the area and in northern France a few years ago and found it all a sombre and moving experience. A couple of years later I discovered that a couple of my (fairly distant) ancestors’ names were inscribed on the gate.
