Elizabeth Harrison - Islington

Post by VALLMO9 »

Trying to trace Elizabeth Mary Harrison in the 1871 and 1881 census, and from 1901 onwards. Born 1863 in the Strand, Middlesex.
MMN: Sarah Wells (sometimes transcribed as Bell). Father John Avery Harrison. Parents married in 1861 (Marylebone).

Here's what I have so far:

1871 - unknown

1881 - not with family
7, Edward Square, Islington
Sarah Harrison, born 1837 Marylebone, married, dressmaker
Ma(r)y Anne Harrison, born 1862 Middlesex (Covent Garden), vellum sewer

1891 census - with family
Muriel Street, Islington
Sarah Harrison, born 1837 London, married
Mary Harrison, born 1862 London, vellum sewer
Elizabeth Harrison, born 1864 London, dressmaker

1901 census - not with family
Hemingford Road, Barnsbury, Islington
Sarah Harrison, born 1837 Marylebone, retired dressmaker
Mary Harrison, born 1862 Strand, London, vellum sewer

The last sighting I have for Elizabeth is March 1899 in Islington. After this date I don't know if she moves away, marries or dies. Possibility she may be a patient in a hospital at some point. If anyone can fill in some gaps (especially where she is in 1871 and 1901-1911) I'd be very grateful! :D

It appears that the Elizabeth born to John Avery Harrison and Sarah Wells was born 19 April 1868 This is confirmed by her GRO Recod 1868 a-j Islington vol 1B, page 244 MMN WELLS and her baptism at St Silas Church, Pentonville, Islington which records her date of birth and confirms her parents as John Avery and Sarah Harrison.

I have found the birth of 5 daughters with the relevant GRO Refs. and Baptism records should you need them.

Here is the copy of Elizabeth's baptism record. She was baptised on the same day as older sister Helen Augusta.

The daughter I found, in order:
Mary Ann Avery 1861
Sarah Louisa 1864
Helen Augusta 1866
Elizabeth 1868
Hannah 1870
all baptised to John Avery and Sarah Harrison.

If you need any more info I am happy to supply but didn't want to double up on records you already have.

Thanks very much for the records and further investigation, Sally! I don't have current subs to Ancestry and FMP, so the images you provided are very helpful. I wonder why Elizabeth's age in the 1891 census is 4 years out then? That's what threw me, and led me down a rabbit hole.

Still wondering where she is in 1871-1881, and 1901 onwards. I know she's still alive in March 1899 (Islington). Very odd that she's not with her family in 1881. She may be a patient somewhere. Also not having any luck finding the family in 1871. As far as I'm aware, I don't think there are any "missing" census pages for London in 1871 (if that's where the Harrison family were living at the time).
