Arnhem

Post by Thunder »

Today is the anniversary (79th) of OPERATION MARKET GARDEN to capture Eindhoven, Nijmegen and Arnhem in The Netherlands. It is difficult to find the service records at TNA because they haven't been tagged with 'Arnhem'. Apart from the military defeat it led to starvation and deaths in The Netherlands in the Winter of 1944-1945 where people resorted to eating tree bark to stay alive. The British Government refused the request from Prince Bernhard to send food supplies in case the Germans captured the supplies.
