1921 census transcription issues

Post by paulr1949 »

I recently “upgraded “ my Find my Past subscription to include unlimited access to the 1921 census. Using Family Tree Analyser I extracted all the records from my tree (I use Family Historian) and started going through them. It’s quite a task as I have just under 10000 records, although many hundreds will have died before 1921. I’m getting there - but I am astonished at the number of transcription errors that there are. Many of them are extremely basic errors. I reckon I’m spending an extra 40-50% of time just unravelling these. Have others had this problem?

Perhaps I should have added that I’m well aware of the fact that the transcribers were limited to one column of data

There are many errors, it was after all TNA who gave FMP after the contract after TNA admitted that they should never have given them the contract after the mess FMP made of the 1939 Register. I sent in an amendment two years ago to FMP regarding them mis-spelling my grandfather's name and they still haven't corrected it.
